LAHORE, Aug 5: Two alleged robbers were killed in a â€˜gunplayâ€™ with the police near Chaubucha Railway crossing in Mustafaabad on early Sunday.
Police claimed that suspects had snatched cash and a cell phone from a citizen in North Cantonment police limits.
Cantonment SP (Operations) Maroof Safdar Wahla said the Mustafaabad police at a picket set up at Chaubucha Railway crossing signaled a motorcycle to stop at around 3am, but two suspects opened fire on police and tried to flee. The police returned the fire and a brief crossfire left the two suspects fatally injured.
The SP said one of the suspects was killed on the spot while the other died on the way to a hospital.
Police seized some cash, two cell phones, two weapons and a motorcycle without number-plate from them.
The SP said it appeared that same suspects had snatched cash and a cell phone from motorcyclist Shahzad in North Cantonment police limits.
He said police identified suspects as 23-year-old Zahid alias Sunny Bilal of Barafkhana Chowk Gawalmandi and 22-year-old Saqib alias Bagga of Gawalmandi.
The SP said the police record revealed that Zahid was nominated in at least 13 cases of dacoity, robbery and possession of illegal weapons while Saqib was booked in eight such cases.
Police shifted the bodies for autopsies and registered two cases in police stations of North Cantonment and Mustafaabad.
SHOT DEAD: A man in his 50s was shot dead by his rival over a property dispute in New Canal Park here on Sunday.
Ghaziabad police inquiries revealed that Javed and his accomplices opened fire on Manzoorul Hassan after they both quarreled over the possession of a house.
Police shifted the body to hospital for an autopsy and registered a case against five people, including a woman, and began investigation.
BODY FOUND: The decomposed body of a man in his 50s was found in an empty plot near a mosque in Punjab Housing Society here on Sunday.
Sattokatla police said the man, not yet identified, was apparently killed a few days ago. Police found marks of violence on the victimâ€™s neck.
